Trisha’s Two-Cent Tuesdays
Let’s face it we live in a fast-paced world, and sometimes it’s hard to keep up…and we feel like we are getting lost in the shuffle. While you may know that something needs to change, you may not have gotten to the point of putting anything into action because, quite honestly, it just feels too darn daunting. You’re already busy, where are you going to find the time to focus on you?! Having said that, you do know that if you don’t things can never get better.
My two-cents? You can start by taking something that you already have to do, and be creative by turning it into some unexpected “me-time.”
I’m a believer that’s kids need some (operative word here) structured activities (what I’m not a believer in is over-scheduling). Of course, with those structured activities comes the task of having to wait for your kids while they perform these activities. Admittedly in the past, I did see some of activities as something I just had to do as a parent. However, what I have decided to do is turn that time into “me-time.”
As I write this I am sitting in a little café called “Ephoria Café.” I’ve been coming here once a week, since September while my daughter participates in a yoga class close by, and I cherish this time to the point that if my husband offers to take her, I outright refuse!
For my daughters dance class, I take a book and read, or use that time to do some journaling.
If I happen to be driving without the kids (and sometimes even when they are with me…a great thing to model) I use that time to do a quick mini-meditation, visualization, or listen to books on CD.
No matter the age of our kids we can all be creative in finding 2 – 5 minutes. It’s not the quantity…it’s the quality.
All of these things that in the past I would have thought of as just something I have to do, have turned into time I look forward to, and give me the quiet time and solitude I need. It’s all a matter of perspective!
Where are there areas of your life you can turn into unexpected “me-time?” Please share so it can spark ideas for other moms as well!
